Induced Abortion

Induced Abortion-

A pregnancy can be aborted intentionally in many ways.It basically depends on the gestational age of the fetus. Also to the legality, regional availability and doctor-patient preference for specific procedures.

Surgical Abortion-
The type of surgical abortion procedure used is based on which stage of pregnancy a women is at.
  • Suction Curettage (Vacuum Aspiration): This technique is used in early pregnancy. The cervix is widened with a series of instruments. A tube is inserted into the uterus and connected to a strong vacuum. The embryo is removed by suction.
  • Dilation and Curettage (D & C): This is used later in the first trimester. Its the same technique thats used after miscarriages. The cervix is dilated, a instrument with a sharp loop at the end is inserted into the uterus. Then the inside walld of the uterus is scraped. The lining and the embryo is removed by suction.
  • Dilatation and Evacuation (D & E): This technique is lessed used. A material made from seaweed is placed in the cervix in order to dilate it. Forceps are then used to remove the fetus, in pieced.
